This watermelon suncatcher craft is an adorable kids’ craft that will bring joy long after it’s finished. In this watermelon craft, kids will use contact paper, construction paper, and tissue paper to create a suncatcher that looks like stained glass.

So, if you’re looking for a watermelon craft, summer craft, fruit craft, or suncatcher craft, this craft is a great one to try! I love pairing this watermelon suncatcher with this glow in the dark shooting star handprint because they are polar opposites- one lets the light shine in while the other needs the darkness to shine.

What You’ll Need For This Watermelon Suncatcher
How To Make A Watermelon Suncatcher
Cut a large watermelon slice shape from black construction paper. Then cut out the center, leaving a thick black border for the rind.

Stick the watermelon outline onto a piece of contact paper with the sticky side facing up.
Tear small pieces of black construction paper for the watermelon seeds and stick them inside the outline.
Tear bits of green and pink tissue paper. Add the green tissue paper around the edge for the rind and the pink tissue paper in the center. Overlap the pieces slightly to create a colorful stained-glass effect.

Place another piece of contact paper on top to seal the suncatcher.

Trim around the watermelon shape to cut off contact paper and hang it in a sunny window to let the colors shine through.
Important Notes For This Watermelon Suncatcher

Cut the watermelon shape: After cutting out the watermelon shape, either bend the watermelon slice to cut out the inside or use an Exacto knife to cut it out.
Overlap the tissue paper: Overlapping the tissue paper slightly creates a beautiful stained glass effect for the suncatcher.
Hang it in the window: The watermelon suncatcher looks best hung in a window with lots of light. It allows the light to shine through the tissue paper, adding to the stained glass effect.
