Alight is a beautiful story of parrots finding a h Alight is a beautiful story of parrots finding a home in California.

The parrots originally came from Mexico, many as pets who were released or escaped, and made homes in the wooded canyons along the coast. They lived there peacefully until deforestation ruined their habitat and building after building was erected.

Instead of their story ending, they made homes in gardens, above bus stops, and apartments.

This is a beautiful story with bold and vibrant illustrations of how resilient the red-crowned parrots are. It’s the perfect book to add to any science unit on adaptation, life cycles, or a migration.

Martina Has Too Many Tías! When Martina learns h Martina Has Too Many Tías!

When Martina learns her tías are coming, she groans. Now she has to polish the floors, instead of telling herself a grand story of castles and fairies. While cleaning she finds a gold coin.

When the party starts, Martina slips away. She buys a daffodil and tucks it in her hair. She returns to the apartment and finds a delicious smell of guava in the kitchen. She finds the pot and topples in!

She explores an island full of talking animals but she finds that she is still alone. This island doesn’t feel like home. Martina hears the laugh of the party and it pulls her back to reality. Maybe there isn’t such thing as too many tías!

“Acacia, Acacia. Do let your hair flow.” Ready fo “Acacia, Acacia. Do let your hair flow.”

Ready for your new favorite Rapunzel tale?

Acacia loves stories. She reads her storybook, changing the brave prince to a princess, because she’s never read a book about a princess saving the day.

When Acacia asks Ma Gothel if she can ever leave the tower, Ma Gothel takes her storybook.

The next day a girl with a red cape is at the bottom of a tower. She sees Ma Gothel climb up Acacia’s hair. The girl in the cape climbs up the tower and the two become fast friends.

With the help of her friend, she outwits Ma Gothel and they love happily ever after!

This is such a fun book that combines both Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood! It’s also so nice to have a book where there is no male lead who saves the princess. It’s a beautiful book of bravery and following your dreams.

Many thanks to @charlesbridgepublishing for sending me a copy of the book!
