These patriotic pasta necklaces are a fun and exciting way to get in the patriotic spirit! Kids will use dry pasta to create beautiful red, white, and blue necklaces that are perfect for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July! After dyeing the pasta patriotic colors, kids will thread them onto string to make a unique necklace they can wear all day long (and save for future patriotic holidays!)

What You’ll Need For These Patriotic Pasta Necklaces

  • Dry pasta (tube shapes like penne or rigatoni work best)
  • Red, white, and blue paint
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Zip-top bags (3)
  • Wax paper
  • Ribbon or yarn
  • Scissors

How To Make This Patriotic Necklace Craft

1. Dye the Pasta
Divide the pasta evenly into three zip-top bags. Add a squirt of red paint into one bag, blue into another, and add white paint to the third. Add a pump of hand sanitizer to each bag.

2. Shake It Up
Seal the bags and let kids shake, squish, and mix until all the pasta is coated in color.

3. Dry the Pasta
Pour the dyed pasta onto wax paper. Spread it out and allow it to dry completely overnight.

4. Create the Necklace
Cut a piece of ribbon or yarn long enough to fit over a child’s head or to tie comfortably around their neck.

5. Thread the Pasta
Invite kids to thread the colorful pasta onto the ribbon, creating patterns or mixing colors however they like.

6. Tie It Off
Once finished, tie the ends of the ribbon together to make a necklace.
