Themed parties are always more fun than regular ones. These dinosaur party ideas for kids are some of our favorite ideas from our recent dino party. The kids had so much fun playing games, eating healthy foods (yes, really! see my tips below), and creating dinosaur-themed crafts. So, if you’re looking for birthday party ideas, this dinosaur party idea is a perfect choice!

Dinosaur Food Ideas

The best part of parties is the food. A kid’s party is always tricky to buy food for because you don’t want the kids full of sugar but it’s also difficult to get them to eat healthier options. That’s why I always opt for a mix of both and use a few tricks to get them to eat the healthier foods.

The biggest trick I used for this dino party were these dinosaur food labels. Kids loved eating the dinosaur eggs and herbivore snacks (a.k.a. grapes, broccoli, celery, and carrots) because I framed them as fun dino-themed snacks. These free dinosaur labels made the food fun and enticing and the kids couldn’t eat enough fruits and veggies!

I also added in some of our family favorites: pretzels for dinosaur bones and bugles for T-Rex claws. I remember as a kid I always put the bugles on my fingers and pretended to be a witch. The kids put them on and pretended to be T-Rexes and it was the cutest part of our dino party!

In addition to these snacks, we also made dinosaur dirt cups! We put a fun dino-themed spin on regular dirt cups and took a few shortcuts to make these quickly and easily. We used chocolate pudding cups, added crushed Oreos, mini eggs and toy dinosaurs on top. They look fantastic and the kids enjoyed playing with the toy dinosaur when they finished their dirt cups.

You can also opt for dinosaur gummies or candies on top if you don’t want to add toy dinosaurs. This way, you don’t have to worry about the kids trying to eat plastic dinosaurs (because we all know some kids will try).

These dinosaur sandwiches originally weren’t apart of our dinosaur party, but we needed some more filling food ideas for the kids, so I pulled this dinosaur lunch recipe idea that my kids loved. Since we already had the dinosaur bones and herbivore snacks, we only used the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

If any kids have allergies, you can always swap the peanut butter and jelly for ham, turkey, or any other of your favorite sandwich recipes.

Dinosaur Activities For Kids

The best activity at our dino party was this dinosaur sidewalk chalk obstacle course. It took about 10 minutes to draw and the kids wanted to keep running through it. From dino stomps and raptor runs to lava jumps and river swims, kids will have a blast going through this chalk obstacle course.

All you need for this obstacle course is a pack of colored chalk. You don’t even need to be able to draw well. Just make a basic dinosaur shape and some rough sketches of bushes and a river and you’re good to go!

Another hit at our dinosaur party was this dinosaur pool sensory bin that uses cut pool noodles, toy dinosaurs, and mini drink umbrellas to create a fun pool-themed sensory bin. Kids can make the dinosaurs swim, float and race the dinosaur islands across the water, or create a rescue mission and save the dinosaurs. This sensory bin invites pretend play and creativity, making it a great choice for sensory play.

For the dinosaur party, I suggest either making a few of these sensory bins or make a really big one with a large container a bunch of dinosaur island. This way, there is enough room for all the kids to play. The kids will most likely be scattered about the different crafts and activities, but I still suggest making it as big as possible in case a large group wants to play with this sensory bin.

Dinosaur Party Decorations

Aside from dinosaur-themed food and activities, you also need dinosaur decorations and party favors! Here are some of my favorite decorations that will elevate your dino party.

Dinosaur Crafts For Kids

These egg carton hatching dinosaur eggs are the perfect craft for a dinosaur party because they can also double as party favors! Save up your cardboard egg cartons, grab some paint and toy dinosaurs, and let kids create dinosaur eggs that really hatch!

This was a fun activity for the kids to do inside while they cooled off from running around outside. You can even have kids paint the base layer and go off to other activities while it dries. Then, when they need a break, they can come finish their hatching egg.

Dinosaur Books For Kids

Another dinosaur party idea is to have a dinosaur-themed read aloud! The kids can all sit and eat their dinosaur dirt cups while an adult reads them a dinosaur-themed book. And, if you’re feeling extra generous, you can gift each party guest with a dinosaur-themed book!
