Ways To Use Apple Cores

Apple cores are the most forgetful part of the apple, mainly because we can’t eat them! But, we don’t have to waste them! Throwing food away deprives it of oxygen (especially at the landfill) which makes it decompose slower and produces more methane (a greenhouse gas) that contributes to climate change. Instead of throwing apple cores in the trash, we can:

Boil the apple scraps with water, strain it (keeping the water), and boil the liquid with lemon and sugar to make jelly!

Make apple cider vinegar by adding apple cores to a jar of vinegar with a pinch of sugar.

Simmer them in a pot of water to remove stains on aluminum cookware.

Feed them to livestock.

Throw them in the compost bin. This way, they aren’t trapped under layers of garbage and can decompose normally.
