What You’ll Need For These Patriotic Jello Cups

  • 1 box of blue Jell-O (e.g., berry blue) – definitely grab this one from Walmart or your local grocery store – Amazon only has packs of 4 or 6
  • 1 box of red Jell-O (e.g., cherry, raspberry or strawberry)
  • 2 packets of unflavored gelatin
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 2 1/2 cups cold water
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • Whipped cream
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles

How To Make Patriotic Jello Cups

For the bottom blue layer, dissolve the blue Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water.

Mix in 1 cup cold water.

Pour the mixture into your 1 oz glasses, filling up to one-third of the way. Place in the refrigerator to set, about 2-3 hours.

After 2-3 hours, start the middle white layer by sprinkling 2 packets of unflavored gelatin over ½ cup of cold water. Let it sit for a few minutes to “bloom.”

Add 1 cup boiling water and stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.

Stir in the sweetened condensed milk until well mixed. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.

Once the blue layer is set, gently pour the white gelatin mixture over it to fill another third of the glasses. Return to the refrigerator and let set for another 2-3 hours.

After the white layer sets, dissolve the red Jell-O in 1 cup of boiling water.

Mix in 1 cup cold water.

Once the white layer is set, carefully add the red layer on top, filling up to the top of the glasses. Refrigerate until set, about 2-3 hours or overnight for best results.

Just before serving, top each Jell-O cup with a small dollop of whipped cream.

Important Recipe Notes

Ensure each layer has set before adding in the next. If the previous layer isn’t set, the colors will mix and you won’t get that striking red, white, and blue layered look.

If the adults want a little kick to their jello cups, you can add in alcohol to each layer of jello. Make sure to explicitly label these or use different cups (or a different order – i.e., red layer on the bottom, blue on top) so they don’t get mixed up with the kid ones!
