How To Make An Apple Buttercream Board

Clean and dry the board, then set it to the side for later.

Separate the buttercream into 2 bowls. In the medium size bowl place 5-6 ounces of buttercream. In the smaller bowl add the remaining buttercream.

In the larger bowl put 3 drops of the red food coloring and mix it using a spatula until all the buttercream is one color. Then add 2 drops of green in the smaller bowl and follow the same steps as above. Clean the spatula in between mixing.

Put each color of buttercream in its own piping bag. Cut a medium size hole on the tip of the red bag.

About 3 inches from the edge of the board and 4 inches from the top of the board, pipe a large lower case “m”.

Turn the board upside down and create a smaller “m” where you want the apple to end. Turn the board back right side up and connect that lines to create the apple.

Fill in the apple with the rest of the red buttercream. You can leave the apple as it is if you want it to be textured or you can use an offset spatula to smooth it out.

Away from the cutting board, break or slice 1 /3 of the pretzel rod. Take that piece of the pretzel and add it to the top center of the apple.

Next cut a small hole on the tip of the piping bag with green buttercream.

Using the green buttercream, pipe a diagonal line across the bottom of the pretzel going toward the top of the board.  From the tip of the line, pipe a curve line that goes from the diagonal line to the top of the apple.

Fill in the the lines with the green buttercream and smooth it out with a clean offset spatula.

Finally, add the mini chocolate chip cookies on opposite corners of the board. Then, add the animal crackers to the leftover corners. Place the apple slices and pretzel bows in between the cookies and crackers.

Important Recipe Notes

This board is best eaten when made but the items can be stored separately in airtight containers in a cool dry place for 2-3 days. The buttercream also can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

To help smooth out the buttercream, you can run the offset spatula under hot water, wipe it with a paper towel and then smooth out the buttercream.

The snacks on the sides are optional – you can switch them out for other items you and your little ones may enjoy more.

I used 2 packs of mini crackers and mini cookies, which can serve about 4-5 children or 2 adults.
