My first years of teaching were rough!

I was so tired of having to search online for resources to supplement the curriculum because we were given outdated resources. I spent hours searching for resources and realized two things. 1. Most resources out there are not standards-aligned or rigorous enough for students. 2. The ones that are, cost a lot of money. Since I had to supplement resources for the entire year, it wasn’t feasible for me to be purchasing everything I needed. That’s why I started creating my own standards-aligned, rigorous resources that I could use in my own classroom.

My first years were some of the hardest. With no support from admins and unfriendly co-workers, I was forced to figure it out on my own. Not to mention that I consistently showed up hours early to school and left after 5pm every day. As you can imagine, I burnt out quickly and literally had no life outside of teaching. While creating resources took a lot of time, I could tell they were challenging and engaging my students. And, soon enough, the data showed it, too! I realized that I didn’t have to stay at school all day – I could go enjoy my evenings without worrying about planning.
