As the weather warms up we take all of our crafts and activities outdoors. Whether we are just spending time as a family, having a picnic, or celebrating birthdays, we do it all outdoors. One of our favorite outdoor activities is observing and exploring nature. These free backyard bingo cards are a fun, screen-free activity to get kids moving out in nature.

This set of backyard bingo cards comes with six different bingo cards that are 8.5″ by 11″. You can adjust your printer settings to print 2 or 4 to a page if you’d like them to be smaller. All cards have the same backyard items, but in a different order, making it easier for kids to find. Kids and adults will love playing bingo and finding various items in their backyard, like bird’s nests, frogs, ladybugs, and more!

How To Play Backyard Bingo

Each player starts with a 5×5 bingo card and either a pencil or bingo dauber. Kids will mark off the “free” space.

There are three ways to play this backyard bingo:

Version 1 lets kids find the backyard items on their own and mark their bingo card as they find them. Kids can choose any item on the card to search for and can go in any order. For example, if a kid sees a rock, they will cross it off on their card. Other kids may not have it crossed off if they haven’t seen the rock yet.

Version 2 has kids find items as a group, then mark it on their bingo card. Playing this way allows kids to mark off the same item and is easier for adults to check if they have bingo. This is closer to the traditional way of playing bingo, with everyone marking off the same number.

The first person to get 5 in a row yells “BINGO!” After checking that the 5 spots they checked off were called, they are the winner.

To make it more difficult for older kids, you can play a special bingo game, like blackout (where kids have to mark off all squares) or the letter T (where kids mark the entire top row and middle column).

Version 3 lets kids observe the items outside before playing bingo. Kids can spot all of the items on the card before playing bingo as a group. An adult can randomly name items they saw and kids will mark them off. This version allows for extra time to explore nature instead of rushing around to find items on their bingo card.

These spring books are all focused around the outdoors. From gardens to seeds to honeybees, these books will be a hit with kids! Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt is my favorite spring book. It shows kids about all the organisms and living things above and below the dirt. The series is fantastic and I highly recommend it!
