Her family tells her all the way her freckles are beautiful - her abuela say they remind her of stars in the sky and her sister even draws freckles on her face before leaving the house. While some kids make fun of her freckles, Pecosita loves her freckles - they are her favorite part of herself 🩷 This is such a beautiful, empowering book for kids! Beauty standards today make it hard for kids (and adults) to love every part of themselves, so it’s incredible to see books like this one that show kids that are differences make us beautiful. Leonard holds his granny’s memory in the toy plane his dad gives him. When the bird swoops in and steals the plane, Leonard embarks on a magical journey that not only helps him retrieve his plane, but also the memories of his granny. It’s a beautiful book to show kids who have lost a loved one that you can hold on to the special memories without holding on to the grief. This is such an amazing book showcasing the power of community. What began as a market turned into a market swap, the sellers coming together and bartering to get what they need. The book transports you to a market in Barbados, filled with delicious produce and sweets. Kids can learn about new foods and culture, and why vendors at markets in Barbados are needed for making jobs available and ensuring food security.
