Students will receive 3 clues after completing a certain number of tasks and will use their suspect list to determine who the thief is. This game features 8 first grade common core standards (SEE BELOW FOR EACH STANDARD). This is created for 1st grade, but the tasks are editable, so you can create your own tasks for your grade level.

Tips:

• I like to reward students with hot cocoa after this game. It gives them a reward for finishing all the challenges.
• I always choose a student I know will be okay with being the thief. If necessary, you may need to remind students at the end that it was only a game and the student didn’t really take the hot cocoa.
• I like to use the gift tags as gifts when students get a clue. This way, they get fun gifts! You can also give them the things they will need for their hot cocoa (i.e., a cup, marshmallows, cocoa mix, etc.)

Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.

• 1.NBT.B.2

Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones.

• 1.OA.C.6

Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10.
