We follow a family as they get ready for Hanukkah! Babushka makes the candles and Grampa carves small wooden toys. Our mail character goes down to their neighborโ€™s house to get cornmeal and she comes across the entire family sick in bed with Scarlett fever. Thankfully she doesnโ€™t get sick and can still celebrate the festival of lights. They have latkes, light the menorah, and open gifts. The family decides to help all their neighbors whose families are sick - they decorate trees with Grampaโ€™s carvings and make food for them. Even though their traditions are completely different, the family still works hard to make sure they have a happy holiday. This is such a beautiful book! The familyโ€™s good nature and kindness really makes an impact on the lives of their neighbors. The story is based on a childhood memory and is such a beautiful story of friendship and the true meaning of the holidays!
