Magic Elf Moving Glove: A must-have for your elf on the shelf
If your family has an elf visit them every Christmas, you know the number one rule is not touching! But what happens when you need to move your elf to a new location or you have a kid that just can’t keep their hands away? With the help of this magic elf moving glove craft, you can safely touch your Elf on the Shelf without disturbing its magic. All you need is a glove, some vinyl and your Cricut to make this cute Christmas craft!
Can Elf on the Shelf Be Touched?
Technically, no – an Elf on the Shelf can not be touched because it will lose its magic. But let’s face it, keeping your kids from touching the elf is sometimes easier said than done! Luckily, there’s an easy fix for this common holiday issue – an elf moving glove.
This magical glove keeps the elf from coming in contact with skin, protecting its magic while the elf is being touches or moved.
What Do I Need to Make an Elf Moving Glove?
The best thing about this easy holiday craft is that you can get everything you need at Dollar Tree! To make your own magic glove, you’ll need:
- A glove. Almost any glove will work, but cotton or knit gloves are the best option when using heat transfer vinyl. Make sure the top of the glove is smooth and free of any other decorations for the best results.
- Heat transfer vinyl. I used white vinyl on my red gloves, but any color combination will work!
- SVG file. Keep reading to see how to grab your Elf Moving Glove SVG to make your own magical glove to use this holiday season.
- Decorations. While adding decorations to your glove is optional, it’s a fun way to dress up the gloves and make them a little more festive. I added a bow and bells to my glove for a little extra holiday cheer.
How to Make a Magic Elf Moving Glove
Now that you have all of your supplies gathered up and ready to go, it’s time to start crafting! But before you can put your DIY project together, you’ll need to download my free SVG cut file.
Once the file is downloaded, open Cricut Design Space and upload the file. After that, measure the space on the front of your glove where you want the wording to go. Then, resize the file to fit in that space.
When the file is the correct size, select all the letters in the phrase and weld them together so they cut as one full design. After that, you’re ready to cut your vinyl!
Load the iron-on vinyl onto your cutting mat with the shiny side facing down. Then, hit the “Make It” button in Design Space. Adjust the settings on your machine or in the design program to cut vinyl and don’t forget to mirror your design before you start cutting!
After the vinyl is cut, use a weeding tool to remove the extra vinyl from around the letters. Press the letters on top of the glove and make sure it’s centered.
Use an iron or your mini heat press to press the vinyl into the glove until the vinyl is secured. Depending on the type of vinyl you’re using, remove the plastic backing immediately or allow the vinyl to cool completely before taking the backing off.
Once you have the vinyl on, your craft is ready to go! But if you want to dress it up a little more, try adding some cute decorations to the bottom of the glove. I used some dollar store ribbon and a couple of mini jingle bells to add some holiday cheer. You could also add some buttons, tassels, pom poms, or sequins.
How to Use a Magic Elf Moving Glove
After your elf moving glove is decorated, it’s ready to use! And since there are so many fun ways to use your magical glove, it’s going to come in handy this holiday season. You can use your magic moving glove in these fun ways:
- As a gift from your elf. Have your elf give your kids the magical glove so that they can safely pick up their friend without worrying about the elf losing its magic.
- To move the elf when it falls. Accidents happen sometimes, so having a magical glove on hand is a must! When your elf falls, put on the glove and put them back in place safely.
- To clean up a mess your elf has made. Do you have a mischievous elf in your house? Use your magical moving glove to safely move the elf so you can clean up his mess.
- Take your elf on an adventure. Use the glove to let your kids take the elf out on adventure away from home. As long as they’re wearing the glove, they can safely move the elf!
