Bugle Christmas Trees: The Best Kid-Friendly Christmas Snack

With so many parties and celebrations to attend during the holiday season, having a few quick and easy treats on hand is a must! And it doesn’t get much easier than these no bake Bugle Christmas trees. All you need are four simple ingredients and a few minutes of your time to turn a handful of corn chips into some adorable sweet and salty snacks.
Bugle Christmas Tree Ingredients
One of the best things about this simple recipe is that you can whip it up with just a few ingredients. All you need to make these cute kid-friendly snacks is:

- Bugles. This is the most important ingredient on the list! To get the classic Christmas tree shape for your snacks, you’ll need these cone-shaped corn chips.
- Green melting chocolate. I used light green melting candy to decorate my chips, but you can use any shade of green you want to create your own treats.
- Star sprinkles. Add the classic tree topper to your treats with some star sprinkles to decorate your snacks. Any color of stars will work to create your own treats.
- Christmas sprinkle mix. You can get creative when adding your own “ornaments” to your Christmas tree snacks. Any sprinkle mix will work to add a pop of color and texture to your holiday treats.
How Do You Make Bugle Christmas Trees?
Since there is no baking involved in this simple recipe, it comes together in no time! Just follow these easy instructions to prepare your own sweet and salty Christmas trees for your next holiday party.

Start by melting the green chocolate. It’s important that you follow the instructions on the package when melting your candy. Make sure to warm them in the microwave at half power to keep the chocolate from overcooking. If the melting candy gets too hot, it will seize up and harden, making it unusable.

After your chocolate is melted, add a Bugle to the bowl and cover it completely in green chocolate. Then, use a fork to remove the Bugle from the bowl. Lightly tap the handle of the fork to remove any excess chocolate, then transfer the chip to a piece of parchment paper.

While the chocolate is still soft, add a star sprinkle to the point of your Bugle Christmas tree. Then, decorate the rest of the tree with sprinkle “ornaments.”
Once your Bugles are all decorated, allow them to rest until the chocolate has hardened. It usually takes around 30 minutes for the chocolate to completely cool. After that, your sweet and salty treats are ready to eat!
Variations and Substitutions
Now that you see how simple it is to make these adorable holiday snacks, you can really have some fun making them your own! Try these recipe substitutions and variations to create some seriously cute snacks for your next Christmas party.

- Use different colored melting chocolate. Green is the classic option for your holiday treats, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick with that color. Create some colorful holiday snacks by swapping the green chocolate for white, red, or even pink!
- Add some snow. Give your treats a winter look by topping them with a sprinkling of powdered sugar snow before serving.
- Use different sprinkles. The “ornament” possibilities are endless when it comes to decorating your own holiday treats! Try adding Christmas light sprinkles, gold or silver sanding sugar, or basic rainbow sprinkles for a different look.
- Decorate with melting chocolate. Don’t have any sprinkles on hand? Grab some melting chocolate in different colors and draw your own ornaments on your tree.
- Add some filling. Give your chocolate covered Bugles some extra flavor by filling them before dipping them in chocolate. Try filling the center of the corn chips with peanut butter, Nutella, or even melted chocolate!
Recipe Tips and Tricks
You’re going to love just how quickly and easily this snack recipe comes together. But that doesn’t mean you can’t use a few tips along the way! Try these tricks as you’re making your own chocolate covered Bugles at home.

- Add some coconut oil or shortening to your melting candy. If you feel like your green chocolate is thicker than you would like after it’s melted, try adding a small amount of coconut oil or shortening. Mix the oil into the melted chocolate and continue adding more until it’s the consistency you like.
- Don’t forget the parchment or wax paper! Melted chocolate easily sticks to solid surfaces, so you’ll need something to transfer your chocolate covered chips to while they harden. Both parchment paper and wax paper are great options because the chocolate won’t stick to either type of paper!
- Add your decorations while the chocolate is still soft. Since your sprinkles won’t stick to the chocolate after it’s hardened, it’s important to work quickly while decorating. Immediately after dipping the chip in chocolate, add the sprinkles to ensure the chocolate doesn’t harden before you have a chance to decorate the Bugles.
How Do You Store Chocolate Covered Bugles

These delicious treats are going to be a hit at your next party. But if you have a few left over when the celebration has ended, just transfer them to an airtight container. You can keep them at room temperature in a cool, dry place for up to two weeks.
