Teach the Butterfly Life Cycle with this Freebie!
Spring is the perfect time to teach about life cycles! I always loved to start with the butterfly life cycle because many children already know about it, even if they don’t know the technical terms, like chrysalis and metamorphosis. Butterfly life cycles are also relatively easier than others as children already have previous knowledge of caterpillars and butterflies. This new freebie will help you teach the butterfly life cycle with your kids while also building and improving motor skills.
These fun butterfly life cycle dough mats depict all the stages of metamorphosis to teach children the name of each stage, along with what it looks like. I have included two versions so you can choose which style you like better. Here’s what’s included in both designs:
DESIGN 1 – 10 dough mats
- caterpillar
- flower
- chrysalis (also comes in “cocoon”)
- leaf
- eggs
- butterfly (top view & side view)
- branch
- life cycle
DESIGN 2 – 11 dough mats
- eggs
- leaf
- caterpillar (2 different colors)
- butterfly (with and without face)
- chrysalis (also comes in “cocoon”)
- butterfly emerging x2
- life cycle
I created these butterfly life cycle dough mats because younger children need more practice with life cycles. Although there isn’t a Common Core Standard for Life Cycles until third grade, children begin to learn about them in kindergarten. It’s also beneficial for students to have various modes of learning, aside from lectures and worksheets! These dough mats make learning about the butterfly life cycle fun & engaging! They work perfectly for morning work, centers, and fast finishers.
I truly hope these butterfly life cycle dough mats help your children master the concept of life cycles and metamorphosis! Click the link below to get yours now!
