Turn the letter V into a colorful paper vase filled with flowers. This hands-on letter V craft helps preschoolers practice alphabet recognition and fine motor skills.
● Construction paper in several colors
● Scissors
● Glue stick or school glue
Suggested paper colors for the example craft:
● Tan, orange, or brown paper for the letter V
● Blue paper for the vase interior triangle
● Green paper for flower stems
● Red, pink, yellow, or purple paper for flowers
Color choices can vary depending on available supplies and personal preference.
Begin by cutting a large uppercase V from construction paper. The letter should be between a half sheet and a whole sheet of paper in size.
This letter serves as the base of the entire project.
2. Cut a Triangle for the VaseNext, cut a blue triangle large enough to fit inside the center of the V.
The triangle represents the body of the vase. When glued inside the V, it creates the illusion of a container holding flowers. It should be bigger than the inner portion of the V, but not so big it sticks out past the outer edges.
3. Cut Long Green RectanglesCut three long, thin rectangles from green construction paper.
These pieces act as the flower stems.
4. Cut Flower ShapesCut three flower shapes from colored paper. Simple shapes with rounded or pointed petals work well for young children.
5. Glue the VaseGlue the blue triangle inside the center of the letter V on the back. This forms the water inside the V vase. Make sure it aligns with the top of the V, trim off any excess if necessary.
Allow the glue to hold the piece firmly in place.
6. Add the StemsGlue the green rectangles so that the bottom ends appear to rise from inside the blue triangle. The stems should extend upward beyond the top of the V.
Spacing the stems slightly apart creates a natural-looking flower arrangement.
7. Attach the FlowersGlue one flower shape at the top of each stem.
Once complete, the letter V features a simple bouquet resting in a paper vase.
The finished project clearly connects the letter V with the word vase.
