● White cardstock or spiral notebook
● Gray paint
● Brown marker
● Black marker
● Pink paint marker or pink paint
● Paintbrush
Use a brown marker to draw a large tree trunk or branch on a sheet of white paper. Make the branch thick enough for the koala to appear as though it is hugging the tree.
Step 2: Paint the HandCover the child’s palm, fingers, and thumb with gray paint. Be sure the paint is spread evenly across the entire hand.
Step 3: Stamp the HandprintPosition the hand so the thumb points upward. Press the painted hand onto the paper with the fingers resting across the tree branch. The fingers will form the koala’s arms and legs, wrapped around the tree.
Step 4: Create the Koala’s HeadUse additional gray paint to make the thumb area larger and rounder. This transforms the thumb into the koala’s head.
Step 5: Add the EarsPaint two round ears on top of the head. Fill in the ears with gray paint and add pink inner ears once the paint dries.
Step 6: Paint the TailAdd a small gray tail near the lower part of the handprint body.
Step 7: Let the Paint DryAllow the handprint, ears, and tail to dry completely before adding details.
Step 8: Draw the FaceUse a black marker or paint pen to draw the koala’s eyes, nose, and smiling mouth. Add small pink cheeks for extra detail if desired.
Step 9: Write the Letter KWrite “K is for Koala” at the top of the page to complete the alphabet craft.
Step 10: Display the Finished CraftOnce everything is dry, display the completed K is for Koala handprint as part of an alphabet wall, classroom display, homeschool portfolio, or handprint art collection.
