How To Make A Layers of the Earth Pudding Cup
April 3, 2026
This layers of the Earth pudding cup is a fun and unique way to learn about the layers of Earth. This pudding cup is always a hit during Earth Day but can be used at any time during the year. It pairs perfectly with science lessons and is a great way to keep kids engaged while learning!

I love pairing this layers of the Earth pudding cup with other Earth crafts, like this Earth bean mosaic and this no-mess Earth painting. If the weather is nice these nature crafts and activities for Earth Day are always a hit with my kids.

What You’ll Need For This Earth Day Recipe
How To Make A Layers of the Earth Pudding Cup
1. Prepare the pudding
Make the vanilla pudding and chocolate pudding separately according to the package directions. Let them set slightly so they’re easy to layer.
2. Color the vanilla layers
Divide the vanilla pudding into 3 bowls:
- Leave one plain (this will be your yellow layer)
- Dye one bowl orange
- Dye one bowl red
- Stir each until the color is smooth and even.

3. Start with the “inner core”
Add a layer of mini marshmallows to the bottom of each clear cup.

4. Add the pudding layers
Carefully spoon in each layer in this order:
- Plain vanilla pudding (yellow layer)
- Orange pudding
- Red pudding
- Chocolate pudding
Try to spread each layer gently so they stay nicely stacked and visible from the side.

5. Create the “Earth’s surface”
Sprinkle crushed Oreos on top of the chocolate pudding to look like soil.
6. Finish with grass
Add a handful of green edible grass on top for a grassy surface.

Important Recipe Notes
Let the pudding set. Allowing the pudding to set will make it easier to layer it later.
Layer the pudding carefully. Aim for even layers of pudding so they can all be seen through the side of the cup.
Use edible grass. Edible grass looks the best to represent the Earth. Use your leftover edible Easter grass, buy some heavily discounted edible grass from the store (yay post-holiday sales!) or use another green food of your choice.

Books To Read While Eating Your Earth Pudding Cup
Books are a great way to teach kids about important topics like Earth Day. My absolute favorite Earth Day book is We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom. It honors Indigenous-led movements around the world and encourages children to protect our water from pollution and harm. You can also check out some of my other favorite Earth Day books below.
