 This DIY bug hotel in a jar is a fun and easy nature activity for kids! A simple backyard STEM project perfect for curious little nature lovers.

Materials

     Glass jar

     Thin cardboard

     Twine

     Small sticks and twigs

     Pinecones

     Bark pieces

     Moss

     Scissors

Instructions

1.   Roll a piece of thin cardboard tightly into a tube and secure it with twine.

2.   Gather natural materials such as sticks, bark, pinecones, and moss from your yard.

3.   Place the moss at the bottom of the jar.

4.   Place the rolled cardboard inside the jar.

5.   Fill the remaining space with the sticks, bark, and other natural materials, packing them snugly to create lots of small hiding spaces.

6.   Tuck a pinecone in at the top of the jar.

7.   Lay the jar on its side in a shaded spot in your garden, under shrubs, or near a flower bed.

8.   Check back regularly to see if any insects have moved into their new home.
