Materials

     1 watermelon

     Baking soda

     Vinegar

     Food coloring (optional)

     Knife and spoon

     Large tray or bin

     Squeeze bottle

Instructions

1.   Cut a watermelon in half and scoop out most of the fruit from the center, leaving a bowl-shaped shell.

2.   Place the watermelon half onto a tray or inside a bin to catch the overflow.

3.   Add baking soda into the hollowed-out watermelon.

4.   Squeeze in a few drops of food coloring if desired.

5.   Slowly pour or squirt vinegar into the watermelon.

6.   Watch the bubbly eruption foam up and spill over the sides like a watermelon volcano erupting.

7.   Keep adding more baking soda and vinegar to continue the experiment again and again. Kids can use squeeze bottles to control the fizzing action themselves.
