Materials
- White cardstock or notebook
- Brown washable paint
- Yellow washable paint
- Orange washable paint
- Red washable paint
- Paintbrush
- Black marker
- Baby wipes or paper towels
Instructions
- Paint a large brown volcano near the bottom of a sheet of paper. Make the volcano wide at the base and narrow toward the top, leaving a flat opening where the lava will erupt. The top should be about as wide as the child’s palm. Allow the brown paint to dry.
- Paint the palm and lower part of the hand yellow to represent the hottest part of the lava.
- Paint the middle of the fingers and upper palm orange, blending slightly into the yellow.
- Paint the fingertips and thumb red to create the brightest flames at the top of the eruption.
- Position the painted hand directly above the volcano, fingers spread, pointing upward. Press the hand firmly onto the paper, then carefully lift it straight up to leave a clean handprint. Allow the paint to dry completely.
- Write “V is for Volcano” across the top of the page with a black marker to complete the alphabet craft.
