Make an H is for Heart handprint craft! This easy alphabet craft supports letter recognition, fine motor skills, creativity, and learning about emotions.
● White cardstock, construction paper, or sketchbook paper
● Red washable paint
● Paintbrush or foam brush
● Black marker
● Baby wipes or paper towels for cleanup
● Disposable plate or paint tray
Cover one hand with paint using a paintbrush or foam brush. Make sure the palm and fingers are coated evenly.
Step 2: Create the First Side of the HeartPress the painted hand onto the paper at a slight angle. Lift carefully to reveal the first half of the heart shape.
Step 3: Create the Second SideReapply paint if needed. Paint the other hand and press it in the opposite direction next to the first print so the thumbs meet near the center and the fingers overlap. The two handprints will form a heart shape. Avoid the temptation to paint both hands, as the paint tends to dry very quickly and the second one won’t produce a satisfactory print.
Step 4: Allow the Paint to DrySet the paper aside until the paint is completely dry.
Step 5: Add the Letter HUse a black marker to write “H is for Heart” above the painted heart. Older children can practice writing the words independently for additional handwriting practice.
Step 6: Display the ArtworkHang the finished alphabet craft for kids on a bulletin board, refrigerator, classroom wall, or alphabet display.
