Materials

White cardstock or notebook (A spiral notebook or sketchpad is the perfect way to turn this into a keepsake collection for alphabet crafts.)

     Yellow paint

     Paintbrush or sponge brush

     Black marker

     Brown marker

Instructions

Step 1: Paint the Hand

Cover the child’s palm and fingers with yellow paint. Make sure the paint is spread evenly across the hand for a clear print.

Step 2: Create the Handprint

Press the painted hand firmly onto white paper. Position the hand so the thumb extends outward. The palm will form the giraffe’s body, the fingers will make the legs, and the thumb is the tail.

Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step 3: Add the Giraffe’s Neck and Head

Using yellow paint, extend upward from the top of the handprint to create a long neck. Paint a giraffe head at the top of the neck.

Step 4: Add Spots and Details

Use a brown marker to add giraffe spots across the body and neck. Draw small brown hooves on the ends of each finger and tail details at the tip of the thumb. Draw the eyes and nostrils. Draw any additional facial details desired.

Step 6: Add the Mane

Use a brown marker to draw a short mane running down the back of the giraffe’s neck.

Step 7: Write the Letter Phrase

At the top of the page, write: G is for Giraffe
