Build a LEGO marble run with kids! This fun, hands-on STEM activity encourages creativity and problem-solving using simple LEGO bricks.

Materials

  • LEGO bricks
  • Large LEGO baseplate
  • Marbles (use with adult supervision for young children)
  • Flat building surface

Instructions

  1. Attach a large baseplate to a sturdy, flat surface.
  2. Build a starting platform for your marble.
  3. Create sturdy supports underneath the track so it won’t collapse when the marble rolls.
  4. Build the track using long LEGO bricks, leaving enough space for the marble to roll smoothly.
  5. Add walls along the edges to help keep the marble on the track.
  6. Create turns by arranging bricks to gently guide the marble around corners.
  7. Include fun features like tunnels, zigzags, or drops.
  8. Continue building the track downward until it reaches the finish line.
  9. Test the marble run by placing a marble at the top and letting gravity do the work.
  10. If the marble gets stuck or falls off, adjust the height, widen turns, or add extra supports until it rolls all the way to the end.
  11. Challenge kids to redesign their marble run and see if they can make it longer, faster, or include new obstacles.
