How To Make An Ice Painting: A Preschool Art Activity

Recipe by stacie

This ice painting art activity is a fun way for kids to explore different sensory inputs and learn about color mixing. It’s easy to set up and budget-friendly.

  • Total Time5 minutes + play time

Materials

     Ice cubes

     Watercolor paints

     Paintbrushes

     A shallow tray

     Cup of water

Instructions

Invite kids to dip their brush into the watercolor paints.

Paint directly onto the ice cubes. Watch as the color spreads and softens on the cold surface.

Encourage them to mix colors right on the ice. The melting creates beautiful blending effects.

Let them explore freely. They can dab, swirl, layer colors, or make patterns.
