Materials

Dry pasta (penne and bowtie work great)

     Red, white, and blue paint

     Hand sanitizer

     Zip-top bags

Baking sheet or tray (for drying)

     2 sensory bins or containers

     Sensory tweezers

Instructions

1. Paint the Pasta
Place dry pasta into separate zip-top bags. Add a small amount of paint and hand sanitizer to each (one color per bag), seal, and shake until fully coated.

2. Dry Completely
Spread the pasta onto a tray in a single layer and allow it to dry fully.

3. Set Up the Bins
Fill one bin with the colored pasta mixture. Leave the second bin empty.

4. Start the Activity
Encourage kids to use tweezers and/or their fingers to transfer the pasta from the full bin into the empty bin.

5. Create a Flag
As they transfer, guide them to arrange the pasta into an American flag pattern:

Red and white pieces for stripes

Blue pasta in the corner for the star section
