Materials

     Dark blue construction paper

     Light blue construction paper

     White construction paper

     Scissors

     Glue stick or school glue

Instructions

1. Cut Out the Letter R

Start by drawing a large uppercase R on dark blue construction paper. The deep blue color represents a rainy sky and creates a strong background for the weather. These two elements comprise the main theme of the R is for rain paper craft.

Carefully cut out the R. Younger learners may need assistance with this step, while older preschoolers and up can practice cutting along curved and angled lines.

2. Create the Clouds

Draw fluffy cloud shapes on white construction paper. Cut out two or three clouds in varying sizes.

Glue the clouds toward the top of the R. Positioning them near the curved portion of the letter creates the illusion of rain falling from above. This placement also reinforces the top-to-bottom concept that connects clouds and rainfall.

3. Cut Out the Raindrops

Draw several large teardrop shapes on light blue construction paper. Cut out enough raindrops to partially fill the lower portion of the R.

Glue the raindrops below the clouds, allowing them to cascade down the letter. Some drops can overlap the clouds slightly for a layered look.

The contrast between the dark blue letter and the lighter raindrops makes the design stand out clearly. When complete, the letter R craft depicts a miniature weather scene.
