Create an I is for Iguana letter craft for preschoolers using paper. This alphabet craft builds letter recognition, fine motor skills, and early literacy.
● Light green construction paper
● Dark green construction paper
● Red construction paper
● Black marker
● Child-safe scissors
● Glue stick or school glue
Start by drawing a large uppercase letter I on light green construction paper. The letter should be wide enough to allow space for decorative details down the center.
Carefully cut out the light green letter I. This will serve as the iguana’s body.
2. Create the Iguana’s HeadDraw and cut out a light green circle from construction paper. The circle should be big enough so it resembles a head sitting on a body.
Glue the circle to the top of the letter I.
Using a black marker, draw two small round eyes near the top of the circle. A simple dot for each eye works perfectly.
3. Add the Red TongueCut a small, narrow tongue shape from red construction paper. A thin rectangle with a slight fork at the end will do the trick.
Glue the tongue so that it peeks out from the iguana’s mouth.
4. Cut and Attach the FeetFrom dark green construction paper, cut out four feet. Each foot should match the width of the ends of the letter I. Rounded or slightly wavy shapes suggest reptile toes.
Glue one foot to each of the four ends of the letter I:
● One at the top left
● One at the top right
● One at the bottom left
● One at the bottom right
These dark green shapes give dimension and contrast to the light green body.
5. Add the Iguana’s SpikesCut several dark green triangles from construction paper. These triangles represent the iguana’s back spikes.
Glue the triangles down the center of the letter I, forming a vertical line from near the top to near the bottom. Point each triangle outward in the same direction for a cohesive look.
This step strengthens shape recognition and pattern awareness, giving the letter I craft educational dimensions beyond just letter practice.
6. Finish with the TailCut a small curved tail shape from light green construction paper. A gentle curve creates a natural reptilian look.
Glue the tail to the bottom of the letter I so it extends slightly downward.
Allow the craft to dry fully before displaying.
