Materials

     Paper plate

     Blue paint

     Tan paint

     Paintbrush

Colored construction paper (brown, white, red, and blue)

     Scissors

     Glue stick

     Black marker

     Tan marker

Instructions

1.   Paint the top half of a paper plate blue to create the ocean. Paint the bottom half tan to create the sandy beach. Allow the paint to dry completely.

2.   Cut out the pieces for the sailboat:

An brown half-circle for the boat

A small rectangle for the mast

A white triangle for the sail

3.   Glue the boat pieces together, then attach the completed sailboat to the blue section of the paper plate.

4.   Cut out a small blue triangle to make a shark fin. Glue the fin onto the blue section so it looks like it is peeking out of the water.

5.   Cut out several small triangles from blue paper and a hexagon shape from red paper. Arrange and glue them together to form a colorful beach umbrella.

6.   Glue the umbrella onto the sandy section of the plate. Use a black marker to draw a line underneath it for the umbrella pole.

7.   Use a tan marker to add small dots across the sandy area to represent grains of sand.
