How To Make A Rain Boots Easter Basket For Kids

Recipe by stacie

Bright rain boots turn into a creative Easter basket idea for kids filled with toy garden tools, treats, DIY seed bombs, and a free printable Easter tag.

  • Total Time1 day and 20 minutes

Materials

  • Construction paper
  • Water
  • Blender
  • Flower seeds (wildflower mixes work well)
  • Bowl
  • Rain boots

  • Toy garden tools

  • Small toys like cars

  • Paper grass

  • Plastic Easter eggs with small treats

  • DIY Easter egg seed bombs

  • Spray bottle or small watering can (Dollar Tree has a cute assortment of spray bottles or Amazon has an adorable selection like this Melissa & Doug watering can)

  • String or twine

  • Free printable Easter tag

  • Hole punch

Instructions

  1. Cut the Paper
Cut construction paper into small squares. Using multiple colors creates bright speckled seed bombs.
  2. Soak the Paper
Place the paper squares into a bowl of water. Allow the paper to soak for at least 15 minutes so the fibers soften.
  3. Remove Excess Water
Lift the soaked paper from the bowl and wring out excess water. The paper should be damp but not dripping.
  4. Blend the Paper
Place the damp paper into a blender. Blend until the mixture forms a soft, pulpy texture. Add a small amount of water if it won’t blend well right away.
  5. Add Flower Seeds
Pour the pulp into a bowl and sprinkle flower seeds into the mixture. Stir gently so the seeds spread throughout the pulp.
  6. Shape the Eggs
Scoop small handfuls of pulp and press them together, shaping them into egg shapes. Squeeze gently to remove excess moisture.
  7. Dry the Seed Bombs
Place the shaped eggs on a towel and allow them to dry for 24–48 hours.
  8. Fill the Boots with Paper Grass

Start by placing paper grass inside each rain boot. The grass adds color and creates a cushion that helps hold the items upright.

  9. Add Toy Garden Tools

Slide small toy gardening tools into the boots. A mini shovel, rake, and spade fits nicely into the tall shape of the boot. The tools give the basket a garden theme and encourage outdoor play.

  10. Place Easter Eggs

Add a couple plastic Easter eggs filled with small treats. Candy, stickers, or tiny toys all work well. Tucking the eggs slightly into the paper grass keeps them visible while still secure.

  11. Add the DIY Easter Egg Seed Bombs

Place the homemade seed bombs among the eggs and tools. The egg shapes blend beautifully with the Easter theme while also introducing a simple gardening activity. Once Easter passes, the seed bombs can be planted in soil around the yard to grow wildflowers.

  12. Include a Small Toy

Add a small toy such as a car. A toy car poking from the top of the boot creates a fun surprise among the gardening tools.

  13. Hang a Spray Bottle or Watering Can

Attach a spray bottle or small watering can to the side of one boot. This extra piece adds both decoration and function for watering plants. The bottle can hang from the boot or from a piece of twine tied around the top.

  14. Attach the Printable Easter Tag

Print the free printable Easter tag and cut it out. Use a hole punch to create a small hole in the corner of the tag. Thread a piece of string or twine through the hole and tie it around one of the rain boots.
