Recipe by stacie

This backyard butterfly hunt activity is a fun way to get kids out into nature! Kids will “catch” butterflies and observe them using a magnifying glass.

  • Total Time5 + play time
  • Yield1 butterfly hunt activity 1x

Materials

  • Toy Butterflies
  • Toy Net
  • Magnifying Glass

Instructions

Before the activity, hide toy butterflies all around the yard. Tuck them into grass, flowers, bushes, and behind outdoor toys.

Give each child a butterfly net and a magnifying glass.

Explain that they are going on a butterfly hunt and should look carefully to spot the hidden butterflies.

As they find each butterfly, they can gently “catch” it with their net.

Encourage kids to use their magnifying glass to take a closer look at each butterfly’s colors and details.

Keep hunting until all the butterflies have been found, or set a timer for an extra challenge.
